About the competition
Teamwork, knowledge, and speed
The KIDCS Quiz & Trivia competition is a team-based contest that rewards breadth of knowledge, quick recall, and collaborative strategy. Teams of up to four students compete across multiple rounds covering history, science, culture, current affairs, and a dedicated East Africa focus category.
Unlike individual competitions, Trivia rewards the combined knowledge of a well-prepared team. Communication and strategy matter: teams must confer quickly, decide who answers, and know when to buzz and when to hold back to avoid point penalties.
The KIDCS Trivia scoring platform processes all scores live, displays team rankings on the venue screen, and feeds the broadcast output in real time — making it one of the most visually dynamic competitions of the Championship.
Question Categories
Every round draws from five categories. Teams cannot choose their category — all five appear in every round.
History
World history, African history, and events that shaped East Africa.
Science
Biology, chemistry, physics, and applied science questions.
Culture
Literature, music, art, film, and Tanzanian cultural identity.
Current Affairs
Global news, regional developments, and events of the past 12 months.
East Africa Focus
Politics, geography, and sport from across the East African Community region.
Round Structure
Stage 1
Opening Round
All teams compete in a written or buzzer round. Questions span all five categories at standard difficulty. Teams accumulate points — highest scorers advance to the Semi-Final.
Stage 2
Speed Round
Teams answer rapid-fire questions on the buzzer. First buzz wins the chance to answer; an incorrect answer carries a point penalty. Reaction speed and confidence are as important as knowledge.
Stage 3
Semi-Final
Qualifying teams face themed question sets: one category per team at increased difficulty. Teams must confer before answering — communication and strategy come into play.
Stage 4
Grand Final
The top two teams go head-to-head across all five categories. The final question is a bonus lightning round worth double points, keeping results open until the very last answer.
